Are you really prepared?

Keep in mind that a lot of students from all over the world are competing for a study place in a top tier university in Germany. How does the selection process work? It is simple, the higher your grades, the better your chances are of getting accepted!

First of all, if you achieved higher than 80% in your high school grades, then congratulations you are ready to go. You will need a higher level of studies in maths to study engineering and biology to study medicine.

Second you need a high level of German for both fields; at Least DSH2 level for Engineering studies and DSH3 level for medicine studies.

All Bachelor degrees in Engineering and Medicine are taught in German, you will therefore need to have a solid foundation and a good grasp of the language. For starters you must have at least a B1 Level Certificate to be able to start your preperatory studies in Germany.

Please Note That the tution fees for medical studies are higher than the other fields. You pay around 300 Euros/Semester  for engineering studies and from 1,500€ to 3500€ per academic year for medical studies, it depends also on the University and your study program.

No, it doesn’t. If you have studied in a public university, all the degrees are at the same level and are all accredited and recognized worldwide. There are exceptions with certain universities that offer more practical experience rather than theoretical knowledge. The main differences are in the master’s degrees.

Absolutely! After completing your bachelor’s degree, you will be eligible for a one-year visa, allowing you time to find a suitable job in your field and start your career life.

Your First Week In Germany

Welcome to Germany, catch your breath and buy a SIM card with your student visa (Don’t forget to get the student discount). Apply for health insurance as it is mandatory to have insurance while in Germany. Lastly, don’t forget to get a copy of your accommodation contract and your Post box key from the landlord.

Never throw any documents away. This is very important as you will receive multiple letters during your first months that you are going to keep as long as you stay in the country, for example your Steueridentifikationsnummer (Tax – ID).

Just Few more steps to be done with your first week. You must go to a nearby Bürgeramt to register your address on the system (If you live in a big city try to get an appointment at least month before your flight.)

Your next destination is the bank to activate your bank account and get your bank card.

  • Downloading any movies, music, books, etc from the internet is illegal, and you could be fined starting from 700 Euros.
  • All supermarkets are closed on Sundays except for some branches of Edeka, don’t forget to stock up your fridge for the weekend!

Now What?

Now you have two years to master the German language and enrol yourself in a German university.
